| Nick started painting in 1999, as a way to develop his creative side. Prior to beginning to dabble with oil-painting, his artistic aptitude consisted of drawing stick-figures. He has always been amazed with that bushy-haired fella on PBS television that we all know and love...Bob Ross. So, he bought a painting kit; complete with assorted oil paints, brushes, and knives; and a few canvases.
As Nick has no 'formal' art training, he picked up a few books on art principles, techniques, and mixing colors. From there, it was a matter of trial and error (and a lot of learning!), as he continued to develop an appreciation for the challenge of creating. Nick is yet to take a proper art course, but he hopes to, in order to further his abilities.
You'll notice in the gallery, that Nick's work is centered around landscape themes. He has always maintained a love for the outdoors, and painting gives him an escape to some beautiful scenery. He is fortunate enough to have traveled to the magnificent state of Alaska 8 times, and visit 46 of the 50 United States. So, the inspiration to paint a particular scene comes from places he's visited, photo's he's seen, what he can see in his "mind's eye", or places he'd love to go!
